United Methodist WomenThe organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. General meetings will be on the third Thursday of the month. These meetings offer a chance to learn from special presentations and a time of fellowship. On the first Thursday of each month, Grace Circle meets at 10:00 a.m. in the Church Dining Room and Erika Circle meets at 1:00 p.m. in members' homes or in the Church Parlor. The circle meetings offer a chance for small group studies. All women of the church are welcome to visit. It is not necessary to participate in all events to be a member of a circle. Women of the Word (W.O.W.) is a Bible Study that meets on Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in the church parlor. BUMW also sponsors a rummage sale each year; the profits from the sale go to various local organizations and, through United Methodist Women, are sent to many national and international organizations benefiting women and children. We are also involved in various other mission projects throughout the year. For more information, please contact Norma Jung-Stein. 2010 FundraisingApril 16-17: Spring and Summer Clothing Sale October 8-9: Annual Rummage Sale Copies of "New Beginnings, Old Favorites", a hardback cookbook are still available. Cost is $15 for one, $12 each for 5 or more. They can be purchased in the church office. Proceeds from these events go to various mission organizations, including Elgin District UMW Marcy-Newberry, Meals on Wheels, PADS, Church Women United, Humboldt Park, Night Ministry, Northern Illinois Food Bank, WINGS, Home of the Sparrow, Heifer Project, BUMC Hispanic Mission, UMCOR, ChildServ, BUMC Youth Mission Trip, and Noah's Ark Scholarship.
